The Various Forms of Disability Advocacy

Disability advocacy can take many forms.

Some focus on changing laws.

Others focus on making travel more accessible.

Some speak out against unfair policies.

Others help people understand invisible disabilities.

Some people create inclusive toys, books, or media.

Others push for better healthcare.

All of that matters.

We all lose when we start treating advocacy like a competition.

Too often, people say someone is “doing it wrong” just because they choose to focus on a different issue.

As a community, we often spend more energy criticizing each other than challenging the barriers that impact us all.

No one can take on every issue alone.

No single advocacy approach will appeal to everyone.

There is space for different voices, priorities, and ways of advocating.

We do not need to put each other down to show our advocacy matters.

We can recognize our differences and still support each other.
